Art and the Environment is a project that allows participants, both children and adults to use trashed materials as a means to express themselves artistically in unconventional ways. This project started from my desire to share my practice publicly due to its multiple faceted nature. My workshops bring an attention to consumption, question personal and artistic expectations, surface the cultural and political relationships to the discard, question ideals of beauty, and provide an absence of expected outcomes to an assignment.

I started understanding the importance of permitting access to my work through education once I moved to Istanbul, Turkey. Istanbul is an enormous city in a country that provides very limited access to environmental awareness. This limited access and limited belief in preserving our natural world inspired me in turning to alternative forms of education.

I started this program in 2017 at The ELC Kids Summer Camp at Koc University in Istanbul, Turkey, and am currently providing workshops at Istanbul&I in Karakoy, Istanbul.
